RANTS:
     Cam Newton charging for autographs at signing sessions? Good to see he is using some of that Florida training he got. This guy is a super athlete but another case of a great athlete getting bad advice on what he's doing. I mean, he should have gotten his father to sale the autographs. I understand people out of the sport or in need of money doing this but come on Cam.
     When people ask me if the criticism that comes from self-publishing is worth it to me. My answer is this. When I was younger it probably wouldn't have been so but now, I'm older, closer to death and when you are closer to your death than your birth you really develope an attutuide of fuck you if someone has a problem that goes beyond just look at the art and commenting.
     I love how as a nation we are following along blindly as people within and outside our government push and get away with taking us back decades when it comes to food safety and work place safety all in the sheep gaze of being told that this helps companies. Help business? Yeah it helps business. So does owning slaves but we so far aren't asking if that should return. Yet. Give some of these people time. These government suits and wealthy asswipes are taking advantage of people in despite situations and they pull away mining safety regulations, push forward short sighted work place laws, and we are just following their words like a Teddy Speak And Spell. How The House Farm Bill Guts Important Food Safety Protections

     A quick blog update today because I had a really bad migraine for half the day but now recovering. Still need to get a lot of house work today because I'm expecting a call any day from the complex about scheduling a carpet cleaning that came with the renewal of our lease.
     Also the skies look really bad outside and I'm going to have to get off the laptop soon. I had a computer fried once even with a good surge protector so I'm not going to let that happen again if I can prevent it.
     I've been meaning to talk about our summer balcony garden in more detail anyways so here you go lovers of fresh veg. First want to state that we aren't doing this thinking we are going to somehow save a tons of money. We love fresh vegetables. plus it's fun to watch things grew. If you have kids I highly recommend doing even a small garden. Kids love keeping track of the progress of the plants and their growth.
     Every year we try to have a balcony garden. We usually end up with a few small cherry tomatoes but that's it. Last year our whole garden was wiped out by a storm when we went on trip and a storm wasn't on the weather report.
     This year we did more research on summer apartment gardens and are trying to grow a good variety of stuff. Peppers, a lot of different herbs, tomatoes, strawberries, and carrots. I'm even thinking about doing the garbage bag potato thing.
     We lost one pepper plant so we picked up a small portable green house to better protect the plants from the daily rains you get here in Florida. Otherwise everything else seems to be doing pretty good. Well, the strawberries aren't doing that good but I think they weren't that great from the beginning. We bought the plant with it and not from seeds. All of our stuff from seeds are doing really great.
     Oh, I almost forgot. Mar's favorite cucumbers are doing really well from seed. So hopefully in a few months we will have a tons of fresh stuff for things like fresh sauces and soups.

     And the second garden pic is so I can make fun of Mar. Like I've said, she doesn't read my blog, Hi Love :) Only a Harry Potter geek like her would think to grow plants in a cauldron. I forgot what she planted in it but if it starts screaming when we have to replant it the cats aren't going to be a fan of hers from that point on.
     The whole garden has become Mar's project. I'm water boy and scarecrow for it.


     Another thing I want to mention is how much I'm enjoying watching Euro 2012. I think this is the first time the whole tournament has been widely available to view in the U.S. Since people have asked on Twitter I'll also stat here I'm cheering for England but my prediction is Germany. I thought they would also win the last World Cup also so don't go heading to any bookies on my prediction.
     Favorite quote of the tournament so far: Macca "Why do goal keepers think they can play football?" Love games Macca does. That broadcasting team is the best that does American broadcasts of soccer games.

     I love spam that asks me to help non English speakers learn English. Me? I'm a poster child for the U.S. failed education system. Why don't you ask me to do heart surgery while your at it.
     They will probably have a special on the insurance down the road from us where they have a gun show twice a month. What gets me I bet 80% of those people attending every show couldn't survive in the woods where I grew for even a day. They would so be shotguns in the mouth if a revolution or zombie outbreak happen. Probably pull Cheney with a hunting partner if they ever went hunting. Reminds me a little of the "Off Road" people in Florida. Ok, there isn't any off roading in Florida. Off roading isn't a empty field somewhere after a rain storm.      *We started the first quarter actually playing pretty good on both sides of the ball and held it to a 7-0 Rams lead after the First Quarter. We missed a filed goal in the First Quarter but I was happy with our play over all. But things started to fall more and more apart in the Second Quarter and by Halftime the score was 45-14 Rams. As soon as a team builds any kind of lead it puts us in a situation of playing outside our game plan and right now we can't do that even for small period of time because of our defense. It didn't really get better from there as our defense totally fell apart and our offense wasn't much better, it was 66-20 after the Third Quarter and ended up 87-20 to end the game. Most of the Fourth Quarter was played with the second string players trying to get them some playing time.
     *Though Tebow played better this game, his stats don't show it, but the other players dropped a lot of  his passes, I'm going to have to drop him back to running packages of plays and will be giving Josh McCown a chance to win the starting job at QB for the rest of the season. Right now receivers just aren't catching key passes Tim throws.
     *I released the injured D. Dodge. It's kind of a crummy thing to do to do that to a injured player but I really didn't have any plans to bring him back next season. I had tried to trade him in the pre-season but there were no takers. He had fell to the third squad even before he was injured.

Next Game: Bulldawgs at Eagles

     *Next week I'm going to start my FIFA 2002 season (I play with Liverpool. And yes that's a really old version of the game. Don't tell me, tell fucking Gamestop and wanting to charge me almost full price for a sports game that's three years old. Also doesn't help that I still play on a PS2 so no rentals for us.) I'm going to rotate between Madden 11(Bulldawgs), FIFA 2002(Liverpool), NCAA Football 10(Virginia Tech), and MLB 10 The Show(Braves). Maybe that will make game Mondays more interesting, especially if I keep getting my ass kicked on Madden.

Drama by Raina Telgemeier {ARC}

     I got this ARC through Netgalley; which made me pretty happy. The last book I got through them was Courtney Summers new book This Is Not A Test. You can read my review of that book here. I highly recommend if you love zombies or just an in general great read check it out.
     So I'm a fan of Netgalley because it leads me to be able to read some really cool story from books about zombies to one about about relationships that out drama the drama on stage.
      I'm a big fan of Raina Telgemeier going back to her Baby Sitters Club books. I got to meet her when we were in New Orleans for ALA at last year. She was really nice. While there took the opportunity and I bought a copy of her book Smile, I review it here, and got her to sign it.
     How I feel about that book has grown from it being very depressing to me to something that's just a joy to flip through over and over again.
     She also signed my autograph book. If you ever get a chance to attend a event she is part of I recommend doing so.
     Going in I really didn't know much about Drama. I hadn't even read much about what it was going to be about but she is one of those creators who I will check out any project they are involved with.
     Raina Telgemeier is one of the few sequential storytellers where when I'm reading their books there are no panels, there are no gaps, I'm totally immersed in every second of the story as if I was watching a film. Comparing medias doesn't really work but I did mean that as a really big compliment but don't think it came across in what I wrote.
     Drama surprised me in many ways but the biggest one was how quickly you fall beside these characters and get to know them. From introduction, to getting to know characters, to story jumps and moves, you are having so much fun before you know it the story is over and you are left smiling.
     I didn't mean to pun there.

Rants and screams:
   With military suicides getting near the point of out pacing deaths on the battlefields tell me our government is taking care of our brave men and women. From someone who has had his life threatened for marching for peace by so called "Troop Supporters" and was once threatened by his boss that I would lose my job if I didn't wear a 9/11 pin I will tell you I'm not for marketing support for troops, I want real up front do something Mr. America with you flag in your back window. This isn't a one side or the other issue, this is a shameful issue for the whole country. We continue to wave our little flags and scream until our throats hurt with politics and gutless blind patriotism but when it comes down to it we fail the military and their families over and over again. Military Suicides on Record Pace, Outnumbering Battlefield Deaths
     The problems in America aren't because there are too many liberals or conservatives but we are in a mess because politicians have learned how to play a lot of liberals and conservatives for fools in many games of "I'm on your side and only your side matters." I sometimes wonder if we are truly stupid to what our politicians are doing to us as a nation or just so scared we have convinced ourselves that our favorite lies are truths?
     Yes because the ratio of student per teacher is a really good ratio. I wonder sometimes what kind of education some of these dipshits had? What we have is a push towards the schools not being able to operate at all and the government would love a stupider nation or schools being privatized and then business/gov control in total to what is taught and we have no say because they would be private businesses and the only choice in town. Romney Campaign Chair: ‘Taxpayers Really Do Want To Hear There Will Be Fewer Teachers’
     A lot of people like to say to me "Oh, so I guess you think Americans are stupid to politics?" Ok, Yeah, ok. See that's a fact. So then I'm told I'm blind to Democrats faults and just like to run my mouth about the GOP. Nope, I'm not. Though lets be honest, the bat shit crazy bad guys are always more interesting. Here's another fact, I'm not even a registered Democrat. I think I was once but decided against it and I live in a state where not having a declared political party also means you have fewer voting right than everyone else. So if you want to say I'm a Democrat lover, I actually think Democrats couldn't find political courage if someone painted it with chocolate and stuffed it down their mouths. If you must know I'm more Libertarian than anything else. But you know real Libertarian and not dump truck dumb shit Ron Paul little l Libertarian. I bet in private he wears a t-shirt proudly that says- I'm a Republican fluffer.

     *We drove down and scored with our first touch of the ball but they did the same and that set the track for most of the rest of the game. We were in the game for most it offensively but our defense seemed to only stop them when they also stopped us; which keep us from recovering from their early three touchdown lead. We were only behind two TDs going into the 4th Quarter when we started to turn over the ball and our defense totally fell apart.

     The good news is Tebow had a hundred times better game under this new offense passing but my defense really needs to approve so we can run the ball with actual running backs and risk a few 4 and outs but right now we're in a mess that says we need to score every time we have the ball.

     *Found out D. Dodge will be out 7 weeks so we picked up Kyle Boller as a free agent QB on a one year contract. Going into the game with the Texans I set our defense to be way more focused on stopping the run but we still gave up 200+ yards to one of their running backs; so I switched from a Bears defense to a Ravens D. Hopefully that will work. This whole season is a experiment so that's work I'm doing, trying to find our way. Maybe our improved play will improve even more next week against the Rams.

I will probably do that as soon as I'm through my current stack of reads and to reads.

The first thing I’d like to talk about today is reviews. Not that I get a ton of them but I’m getting more and more.

Also I consider micro reviews, reviews, nothing wrong with them except when you dive into being critical about the work. You just don’t have enough time for anything besides a star rating on Twitter or in that limit of words. Going for more in that sort of environment leads to- “This sucks.” “Best thing ever” and “I will never get those min/hrs of my life back after reading this.”

 Currently in my thoughts when it comes to reviews, besides the fact that I might stop reading them good or bad, is that I find it interesting that some people get angry that I don’t respond to their bad review of something I wrote.

These people take time to write me an email to say why haven’t I gotten into a pissing contest with them? Sorry you didn’t like the story but writers don’t owe readers an internet duel.

Also I’ve never gotten how reading a story or seeing a movie you didn’t like is somehow a personal issue. Move on.

“If you make art, people will talk about it. Some of the things they say will be nice, some won’t. You’ll already have made that art, and when they’re talking about the last thing you did, you should already be making the next thing.

I say as Neil Gaiman has said, “do your art.” I believe the very act of doing so will piss off a lot of people and there is no better reason.

I’m going to say something here that might piss off some people I know who are published with big publishers or work for them, but I think even though you win in sheer volume of good and bad views heading your way, it’s nothing like what self-publishers tend to receive.

I just think the spit and boil towards self-publishers is almost more personal from reviewers but also that might be part of the internet age of trolls and hiding behind a handle? Maybe self-publishers look like easier targets also.

Maybe, I don’t know, just a thought.

I could just be sitting here in my side of the yard thinking the dog shit over here stinks worse than the dog shit over there?

Now to the hot bed topic just about everyone is talking about in publishing- The Department Of Justice suit against a number of publishers. I’ll just throw out some things I said on Twitter about this.

I love that publishers are standing with Apple against the evil Amazon. Now this is a Game of Thrones.

Apples predatory software and operations make Amazon look holy. These enemies we choose to sleep with?

The DOJ/publisher/Amazon mess is that, a mess, but there is no golden army to stand with.

And in other news I’ve decided to stop releasing my monthly free stories and just focus on Tin Universe and Chaos Read. One story a month is enough for me right now to center in on writing, revising, editing, and releasing each month.
