WAITING FOR TIME TO READ...WAITING FOR TIME TO DIE

I actually got the chance to read a few things this week and watched a couple of DVDs also. I'll start with some graphic novels and then go into a few DVDs. All of these materials came from the library. Remember to support your local library even if you do not use it at all or not often. Never know, one day you might find yourself in need of a great place like a free public library but if we don't support them they will go away.
Tom Strong: Book 1 was part of Alan Moore's Americas Best Comics line of books. Not my favorite books of the line, that would be Top-Ten, but I still have enjoyed the Tom Strong stories when I've gotten the chance to read them. They remind me very much of reading old Superman stories, though with a high sci-fi bend to them and more modern storytelling strengths.
Fantastic Four Visionaries John Byrne collects the first issues in John Byrne's great run on the first family of comics. My favorite comic run ever was Byrne's run on Uncanny X-Men for those were the books that gave me my love for the art form in the first place. I know these days a lot of people only think things of John Byrne for stuff he has said online and he is not looked at as much for the talent he has always hand in his hands but for him personally. Not the artist and writer but the man. From Next Men to Superman but not in that order historically, I have enjoyed the works of John Byrne. In my eyes his run on Fantastic Four was the best ever on that series and yes I'm going to go as far to say even better than Lee and Kirby.
Uncanny X-Men: Sisterhood was a nice way to end my weeks graphic novel reading in that I was getting to know again what has been happening latly with my all time favorite comic. I have enjoyed a lot of what they have done with the X book line since House Of M. You can say what you will but what they have done is inject much needed life into a line of books that almost drove away, and in some cases did drive away, a lot of long time readers.
Away We Go was one of those simple little films that breathed along at a nice run and at the end it left me saying, "That was pretty cool." And sometimes that is actually what I want from a movie.
Paper Heart was a film I had wanted to see since it was in theatres. It is funny, sad, real, maneuvered, and then sad and funny again.
Waiting For God: Series 2 A little British Tv for background viewing for a night of writing. I really enjoy this series that when I come to think about it looks like me and Wave in the future. One crazy mean bitch and one crazy nutter old fart raging against the world. It is one of the most rebelish television shows ever produced if you ask me.

I know it has been ages since I did a proper post but that is good news, this means I have been busy writing and doing other things besides looking up cheat codes for my new(used but loved still) Buffy games and researching the seams on 1950's nursing uniforms. The last one was actually relavent to a short story I wrote but I will not go into it because right now it's way past weird and doesn't make sense even to me?

This book is written by a very talented writer I have known for a while and I can not wait until I get my hands on a copy of the book. I'm also going to request it at every bookstore, used bookstore, library, and maybe a few icecream shops to spread the word when it hits the streets.

As for me I'm as strange as ever, though now we have a hurricane heading this way and the water pipes went boom in our apartment complex this morning. That's some soap opera timing that is. So the storms coming may just effect my strange levels, one way or the other. Which is good with me and those I love, one way or the other.

My writing process is now: idea, write, story, edit, send, done.

Oh, and there is freak out at rejection, non-sales, and that overwhelming sense that I'm destined to fail at the editing stage no matter how creative my story is because I do not have the thought processes(you can replace with stupid but why be cruel)to polish the words into a situation that a translator doesn't have to get involved in.

But my writing process is now: idea, write, story, edit, send, done.

Move on.

Having a healthy attitude about writing rejection is right there with having a healthy attitude about God giving you a life bro... wait, that is rejection also...

Done, move on.

I have not been updating much of late or even been online that often to be honest because I have been working on getting a better house work schedule going and also writing every chance I get. Everyone else can find the bad things going on in the world and write about them on their blogs(I'll comment), and everyone else can make the cool icons and show them off on livejournal(been jealous of those for years), and everyone else can become successful and I will be happy for them.(I mean it.) With the level of sickness I have been feeling over the last year or so I'm happily just trying to find a level of happiness within me that doesn't keep me up all night and doesn't keep me from enjoying life. Yes, the world maybe crumbling around us, yes, God maybe a real big dick in his sick humor of putting a dream inside an empty vessel(my brain) but I am just me being the writer, the lover, the friend, and the day to day person trying.

I sound very high school when I get emotional on blogs. Maybe I should wri...well, finish a YA book?

Less modern radio moods aside, I submitted a short story last week to one company and another last night. As I have said over and over, just need to keep it going. Finished my notes off the 1st Draft of my next book and so the 2nd Draft will begin its life soon. The 1st Draft turned out good but lets hope the 2nd Draft does not have as many holes in it as #1 did.

I can hate. So can you. Hate can be very healthy. A good boiling hate with your arms folded and glaring a hole through someone is a good thing. Much better than smiling while it builds from within to the point were your hate becomes action. I think sometimes the biggest motivation in with me in my writing is hate. Don't ask me to explain because it would probably end up turning into some sort of philosophical and phytological study of my thinking process. I have always believed that one of the biggest problems in this world is our blindness to our base levels. Hate, greed, fear, lust, love, anger, and more....all things which help create us, mold us, feed us. When human beings hide from these things they are cutting off roots of growth and everything from within begins to rotten like a trash bag full of last months sausage links. Just thought I would share those thoughts.

Moving on.

I wish to give a shout out to someone I have called Brave Summers. A old internet friend from back in my on the net 24/7 days. Don't know if you ever visit here Courtney but you are one of the most talented writers I have ever encountered. Your abilities to tell a story have did nothing but grow in what I have read of your work and in that it has been a long time since I have read anything I would say you are probably Ms.Writer Goddess these days. Any success you achieve you deserve. I know one of these days I will be standing in a bookstore pointing to the back of a book saying, "I know her." And people will walk away saying, "Yea, right Brian. Whatever."You are a story teller who I have always thought runs circles around most of the other modern wishing on a star I'm a writer, I'm on the internet writers including myself. I told you a long time ago and you probably do not remember this but I said, "I think when I read something you write the only thing I can say is that young lady writes. Period. Cold, in your face, there is the subject, point, and fact. She can write." Best of luck in this next step in your life.

Attempt to Cut Off Funding to Former School of the Americas Fails
In other news from Capitol Hill, an attempt in the House to close the U.S. military training center once known as the School of the Americas has failed. 42 Democrats joined with Republicans to continue funding the Defense Institute for Hemispheric Security Cooperation. Human rights groups have urged Congress to close the school which has long been linked to human rights atrocities committed in Latin America.

Court Rules Against Student in Free Speech Case
The high court ruled on Monday that public schools can prohibit student expression that can be interpreted as advocating drug use. The case centered on a high school student in Alaska who was suspended for holding a sign that read Bong Hits 4 Jesus at a parade during a school trip. In his dissent, John Paul Stevens criticized the majority of the court for inventing out of whole cloth a special First Amendment rule permitting the censorship of any student speech that mentions drugs.

Court Backs Bush's Faith-Based Initiatives Program
In another five to four ruling, the Roberts court handed a victory to President Bush's faith-based initiatives program. The court ruled that ordinary taxpayers cannot challenge the constitutionality of White House efforts to help religious groups obtain government funding for their social programs. In another case that was closely watched by environmental groups, the court ruled that the federal government can avoid its responsibility to protect species under the Endangered Species Act by handing off authority to the states.

Opium Production Soars in Afghanistan
A new United Nations report has found opium production in Afghanistan has jumped by nearly 50 percent over the past year. Afghanistan now accounts for 92 percent of the world's illicit opium production. Much of the opium is converted into heroin and morphine and distributed around the world.

Insurance Industry Prepares Counteroffensive Against Moore's Sicko
Meanwhile the New York Sun is reporting the insurance and pharmaceutical industries are readying a multifaceted counteroffensive against Michael Moore's new film Sicko. Several think tanks and front groups are being bankrolled to attack Moore's critique of the health care industry. According to the Sun, the groups involved in the campaign include the CATO Institute; the Manhattan Institute; the Galen Institute, Pacific Research Institute; the Heritage Foundation and FreedomWorks, which is run by Former House Republican Majority Leader Dick Armey.

Students Criticize Torture in White House Meeting With Bush
Meanwhile protests are continuing over the Bush administration's support for torture. On Monday the president was personally presented a letter signed by 50 high school seniors in the Presidential Scholars program. The letter said: "We do not want America to represent torture. We urge you to do all in your power to stop violations of the human rights of detainees, to cease illegal renditions, and to apply the Geneva Convention to all detainees, including those designated enemy combatants." White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said the president was not expecting the students" letter but read it and then told the students that that United States does not torture and that the country values human rights. Meanwhile protests are taking place today across the country to mark the UN's International Day to Remember the Victims of Torture. In Washington the American Civil Liberties Union is organizing a Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice.

CIA Releases Docs on Spying, Assassination Plots
The CIA has declassified nearly seven hundred pages of documents detailing scores of operations from the 1950s to 1970s.
