Where I talk about stories growing or splitting into a different story? and the stories that change and how it can be a good thing.

I've said for a long time that I think it's bullshit that painters, artists, singers, song writers, dancers, and most other talents in the arts can have works in progress, works that change but a writer of prose has to have one story finished complete for a forever watch when its sent out into the word.
Musicians can play songs that are barley finished in concerts when the song will not go out in mass for years. They can change songs at will and nothing is said but George Lucas makes changes in his film or a comic creator makes changes and people scream like they own the story.
No Star Wars films and comics aren't prose but I gave those as examples to show how one art form is allowed to grow a story while when another does the same its seen a roasting a baby on stick.
For the most part prose stories aren't allowed growth, change, and without growth they are also maybe missing out on a chance of finding great discovers that can come from change, from being allowed to grow.
I've gotten into some good discussions with friends in publishing over my view that the biggest thing digital publishing offers for writers beyond controlling your work, and this is part of controlling your work, is also letting the work evolve. I say stop playing creationist storytelling, let that story walk onto land if it can.
In the case of Nova Ren Suma's Dani Noir, which I loved, my review, being moved from a Middle Grade book to a YA book with changes within and a change of name and title, I find it is a very interesting thing and would like to see how Fade Out differs from Dani Noir.
My only big issue with this might be that now a lot of younger readers may not get a chance to read Dani Noir as I did. It's such a great book I hope they keep both versions in print. I'm hoping success for both versions.
Throw in note: if you not reading books by Nova Ren Suma you are missing out on stories by one of the best writers writing today.
This isn't the first time this happened in big time publishing. It actually happens a lot more than people think. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes its just a move from Adult to YA without any changes except maybe a different cover. Sometimes its a move from one genre to the next.
Now comparing this instance with Dani Noir/Fade Out to what I'm talking about when it comes to the Evolving Story isn't apt. I'll admit that right now but I just wanted to use it to show changes in story aren't really unusual in prose, it just seen that way, and it gives me a chance to bridge into that subject I've wanted to discuss for a while here in greater depth.
People tell me releasing a work before its "pefect" is a big mistake. But why? First is a story ever truly perfect? No bodies stories out there walk on water. Though Neil Gaiman's lips are dreamy......anyway, What one editor considers ready to release another looks at as being in need of a lot of work.
People tell me self publishing is a terrible thing because most of the time, unless you have the money to hire a professional editor, it's a work that goes out that isn't ready for publication.
I read a lot, my friends read a lot more, Mar reads as much as anyone I've ever meet and anyone who reads a lot will tell you there are tons of books published through "big publishers" which could use a couple more edit passes. Need another set of eyes or have their editor "fired" That was actually said to me by a editor who works for a big company.
But not everyone has the money to hire an editor, or has friends and loved ones who will read over their stories, or even has access to find things like writing groups. I've tried working with several writing groups but they more often than not writers groups confused with being a book reading slash book shitting on group. Now stand out and don't be confused by your group identity, I'll love you either way, but the point is everyone doesn't have access to support systems like everyone else. Nor should the "normal" support and learning systems be the only ones recognized.
One of the reasons I like the idea of the evolving sushi story is how it puts your neck out there. It throws you into the pool to learn to swim.  It creates a very thick skin. It teaches. And it allows for change. You know change, that thing humanity has enslaved, killed, and destroyed to try to hold back?
Change and control should be in the hands of the writer. I hate some of the changes George Lucas has made to Star Wars but they are his stories. His right to control them. I hate DRM on efiles but its up to the artist to decide if they want to use it, not you. I think as long as the changes are made by the creator or approved by them then its a good thing.
I have friends in big time publishing. People who are writers, editors, in marketing, and work at the printers. I have no problem with anyone going the route of traditional publishing to make their mark but the one of the things you do lose is how much control you have over change. I wont be like some self publishers who say its a price to be paid. Lets not get over dramatic, its a choice. Oh, and lets make this clear every self publisher would "sell out" in second if the offer was put on the table.
What people like Amanda Palmer are doing should be applauded because its not only creating a direct line from the fan to the creator but its putting the changes and control further in the choice of the creator if that want they want.
What podcasters, webcomic makers, webseries creators, webfilm makers, ebook writers, are doing should be applauded because they are not only producing some really good works of art, they are fighting for our rights by the mere attempt to change the system.
Within this mess of writing I guess what I need to say is what I want more than anything else for creators is a right to change.
Dani Noir becoming Fade Out isn't a bad thing. I don't know what changes will be made to translate it to a YA book besides the cover and title change. I loved Dani Noir. I think Nova Ren Suma is one of the best writers today. My only wish was that these changes were totally in the writers hands and that all writers "published" and "self-published" were allowed to change their work, to evolve their work if that's the road they want to walk.
There was a time that every book was truly unique because they were hand written. The original sushi books. And there is nothing wrong with experimenting with a story until it finds it footing and finds its audience. And taking a reader along for that journey could be a very cool thing. It's not for everyone, I get that. Not for every reader and not for every writer but the changes should be choice and not ripped like you are throwing fire into church. I'm just throwing my story into the wild.
I'm just looking for a better model for the writer and believe that sometimes a little raw or not quite ready doesn't hurt whether its in your food choices or publishing choices.

After long winded mess.

Rants and rambles:
A look at a man who has become a icon to many and to some a symbol, cooperate symbol of how creators have been ripped off in the comic book industry. I see it this way. The guy saw the writing on the wall and took care of his house so to speak. Maybe he has never fought hard for creators rights but he did what was best for himself and his family. And after that being Stan Lee more and more is really coming off like a cooperate asshole.

Where I talk about the Bulldawgs, Free Comic Book May, comic book hardcovers, and there's a mention of Church Go Away Signs

*going to start throwing in a random photo from my phone in with each entry. Mar made frozen blueberry greek yogurt poppers. They look and taste like eyeballs. But then again I hate yogurt.

Madden 11, Franchise Season 1
Pre-Season Game 3 {Replay after power outage ended last attempt at playing this pre-season match up}

Individual Game Stats:
passing
D. Dodge/64yds/7comp/10att/
J. Mccown/179yds/1td/11comp/28att/ {next week I'm giving Mccown a lot of snaps. Right now I'm leaning towards him to be the starter with Tebow in wildcats packages.}

rushing
T. Tebow/79yds/1td/10att/
M. Bundy/56yds/12att/
B. Westbrock/41yds/12att/ {Looks like Westbrock and Cooper will be sharing the running back duties; which is fine because I like to run a lot and usually use a two or three RB offense.}
R. Cooper/30yds/5att/
J. Mccown/29yds/1td/4att/
receiving
G. Olsen/7rec/73yds/ {The rest of the rec's were mainly passes to HB and FB and long wing and a prayer completions. T. Owen looked really bad in this game, dropping a lot of passes. I traded him to the Panthers for a 3rd round pick. I'll go with the remaining receivers I have. He wasn't doing anything for the team.}
*I'm not listing defensive player stats because they don't deserve the lights that would shine on them with the millions of people who visit my blog. Though it doesn't help when I have a offensive that does nothing much, but my D is bad. Bad bad bad.
Damn that storm that knocked out our power and my game last week because I got my ass kicked yesterday when in that game I played before I played much better on offense and defense.
Next week you will find out how I did going up against the 0-3 Cardinals as the pre-season ends and what will probably be a long regular season fast approaches for the Richmond Bulldawgs.

Free Comic Book May
My local comic book shop, Famous Faces And Funnies, celebrates not only Free Comic Book Day but a full month long celebration every Saturday in May. And that's not counting their game nights, quiz nights, and other great events they are always having and not just one day out of the year.
Saturday I went in planning to pick up the first Batman New 52 trade but it was in hardcover. HARDCOVER! Anyone who knows me knows the only thing I mindlessly ramble on about more when it comes to books, besides photos covers is HARDCOVER books.
Ok, here's my issue when it comes to hardcover cover and comics. I've already ranted about this on my Facebook and Twitter but I'll rant more here.
I hate hardcovers higher price so that right away ends up making it bad for me who is on a budget, tight budget for what comics I can buy every month. We spend more in May than normal at the comic shop but we like to give them a extra little boost this time of year.
But another thing is DC lost sales from me because both New 52 Batman and Justice League came out first in hardcover. Why when trying to pull in new readers with a reboot do you release two big books first in HC? Just not a fan of books coming out first in hardcover. Big fans will buy but with me and casual shoppers, that $24 goes elsewhere.
I've had several people tell me it's worth the price of a hardcover and I'm not saying I don't think it is, I'm saying why not take advantage of the new start situation in a broader marketing standpoint.
But DC being marketing buttheads aside I picked up Excalibur The Sword Is Drawn and a trade gift for someone else. Need to get the rest of the Claremont/Davis run on Excalibur. That was my favorite X-Men book for a long time. They had a lot of good trades on sale Saturday. $5 trades. 60% off. Good stuff. And if DC releases more books in hardcover first maybe I'll pick up more Excalibur or something else I've been meaning to get.
So far of the DC New 52 trades I've only picked up Animal Man {not in hardcover} but I was already to buy Justice League and Batman also. Hell I was going to buy Justice League International but I was pissed seeing Batman was in HC.
   Geek nerd rant mic dropped.

Check out these links, cool stuff:
One of my favorite podcasts is Geektress. Their latest podcast is here. Also you should check out their store. I own one of their monkey shirts. Their having a sale so support them by buying something if you enjoy anything on their site. Hell, if you hate the site buy something.

Since I pissed off a friend in a big time ranty sort of way on text messaging yesterday when I said Hellboy is a better comic book movie than Batman Begins, and I'm right on that subject, speaking of Hellboy check out the first part of a motion comic here. They should have animated a earlier Hellboy story though, this one takes forever to do anything in part one and then not much. But it's worth checking out and seeing if it gets better.

Rants and such:
On the way to the grocery store over the weekend we saw a church sign that read WOMEN WHO FEAR GOD SHOULD BE PRAISED. Did you hear my scream of rage around Saturday?
It's continues to amaze that on one hand almost every major religion talks about how numbers are dwindling and young people are turning away from the major faith mythologies but they are over and over again pushing people away with their sexism, homophobia, and bigotry.

Where I talk about music, portal cake, and moms

What will I talk about today:
Since it's Thursday it's music video time. These are the songs I'm listening to while writing to begin my day. I don't list every song I've listened to during the morning part of the day, just the ones I don't think I've mentioned here before.

Lets start the music morning with some Green Day: Sex And Booze.

In a little bit of a old school mood today so lets start that feeling with some Jerry Reed. Jerry Reed: Amos Moses

This was my push out my chest song in high school. Now it didn't fit my life but that's what a push out your chest song is for, has nothing to do with reality. Waylon Jennings: Honkey Tonk Heroes

A song that always hits me emotionally when I listen to it. Arrested Development: Mr Wendal

Like most of Ani's songs you have to hear them live to truly feel the emotions she puts into each word. Ani Difranco: Every State Line. I couldn't find a good live version online.

Love my anime soundtracks. The Seatbelta: Ask DNA

My favorite songs are those that tell a story and though I like The Gambler, this is my favorite Kenny Rogers song. Kenny Rogers: Coward Of The County

A true classic. Loretta Lynn: The Pill

I think they should remake the movie but have John Barrowman play the lead part. Jeannie C. Riley: Harper Valley PTA

I posted the parody Dalek version of this the other day but will always love the original. Roger Miller was just a song writing genius. Roger Miller: King Of The Road

A story of how America treats its heroes. Kris Kristofferson: The Ballad Of Ira Hayes

and lets end with some more Cash. It's been a very song writer focused song list on this Thursday.

Cool things you should check out:
I haven't even played the Portal game, but a lot of people know do, though I have seen some really creative fan creations based on the game. Portal Cake

Wil Wheaton on Star Trek

Did Farting Kill The Dinos? I don't know if it did but it did kill the radio star......what.....ok, I am old.

Since mothers day is coming up how about mom talk fiction wise. I don't know if my mom reads this but if she does Happy Mothers Day.

Rants and anger:
I live in a place where down the road they have a gun show every other week. Not joking. It's like GUN SHOW cat show GUN SHOW cat show GUN SHOW.....

Yes, because you can't find anything more offensive and callous than making a statement about human rights. Oh, and people who want to bring up Dick Cheney for a Gay Flag for the GOP to fly let me ask you this. Where was he when he was working at the White House? Where was his defense of the rights of all people being able to get married then? When he had a personal, family, blood stake in the issue Cheney he was a coward. And also for those saying this move by Obama has political thoughts within. Yep. What? So.

Interesting news on a possibly huge copyright decision.

Now I feel so much safer to fly.

Also if I delete you off something like my Facebook or Twitter then you must really be an ass because I can talk to anyone...just about. But also don't expect me to tell you how or to whom you are being a ass to. I'm not your fucking therapist, use a mirror.

Where I talk about Podcasts, my writing plans, and cool shit....not warm shit..........never mind.

Wonder What I will talk about today?

People asking about Chaos Read and Tin Universe. Basically what I did was push everything back a month. I've also decided Chaos Read will end with the conclusion of the In The Past story but will probably start back sometime in 2013.
For those who enjoyed Chaos Read, I'm going to collect Chaos Read: In The Past soon in one ebook volume with some extras like a art cover and maybe a couple interior illustrations. When I do collect the stories it will still be on the You Set The Price! method as was the series. When the collection comes out will depend on finding funds to hire an artist and finding the right artist.
I also have ideas for two other collection getting all of my stories on a few collections for those who would rather read the stories in that format. When I do the collections I will try to make them something special by including such things as art covers and interior art.
I'm still doing monthly story releases but by not setting a stone cold dead release date it gives me a chance to try and make the stories as good as I can.
The following it what I see from this month to the end of 2012.
May: Chaos Read #5: In The Past part 4.
   June: Quoit.
July: Tin Universe #11: The Hillbilly Jungle part 4.
August: Chaos Read #6: In The Past part 5.
September: Tin Universe #12: Mystery From Bunker Hill part 1.
October: Tin Universe #13: Mystery From Bunker Hill part 2.
   November: NANOWRIMO {no story  release as I will be working on writing a NANO book}
   December: Tin Universe #14: Mystery From Bunker Hill part 3. {More than likely I will also probably be re-releasing a few older poetry collections in Dec.}

   While I'm here I'll also write out a blogging schedule. I wouldn't do this but people have asked me about it and also told me I should do it. {though how much I keep to this is all up to life and what I feel like writing about.}
Monday: Video game updates. I talk about my latest wins and loses and screams and throwing of controllers while playing video games. For the most part I only play sports games.
Tuesday: I'll talk about podcasts, webshows, and webcomics that I like. I hope in the future to turn Tuesday into my own vlog day but that will happen whenever I get up the courage to do it.
Wednesday: I'll highlight a projects of mine from the past or present or something coming up. Total and complete self-promotion.
Thursday: Music Video playlist. I'll post YouTube music videos and maybe talk about what the songs mean to me.
*also every blog will include cool things I've come across online and my rants.

Where I talk about the Bulldawgs, Orson Scott Card, and stuff "We got stuff"

Madden 11, Franchise Season 1
Pre-Season
Game 3: Bulldawgs Vs. Jets
The Jets were leading 24 to 14 going into the 4th Quarter yesterday when we lost power at the apartment. A big storm was rolling in quick and I couldn't finish my game in time so I'll have to replay it this weekend if I find time.
This was my first game of the pre-season on All-Madden level. If I learned one thing from this power failure canceled game it's that by the end of the pre-season I better get my quarterback situation straight. Tebow will play but maybe just only ten or so snaps a game in wildcat type plays. On All-Madden level he isn't very accurate throwing the ball.

And from fantasy football to fantasy asshole speak.

I was asked last night by several people what I thought about Orson Scott Card's latest homophobic comments but I think his uninformed, idiotic, dickweed statements speak for themselves for the most part.
Though off from this subject I will say something about the topic of authors personal lives/views and their work, and how it effects readers.
On a personal note I don't have to like a artist to enjoy their work. Examples I'll give you off the top of my head are John Byrne, Robert Kirkman, Alan Moore, and H.P. Lovecraft. There are many more I could recite and many of them I wouldn't even want to talk to or shake their hand but I love the stories they've told.
I really think one of the things that hits home sometimes and this applies to Orson Scott Card is the fact that he's a contemporary, alive and kicking, during the same time as his readers. Looking at someone like Lovecraft I think to many readers now its almost as if he himself is a fictional character or a product of his times.

   If that makes any sense.

   Probably not.

   Moving on.

Things You Should Check Out:

How long before this story is a Bones episode? I guess me including this in THINGS YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT shows that I'm a little off the mark.

Ok, you probably want something more "nice" to read after that link. Try this link on cool book storage ideas. The only reason I've ever wanted a big house was to make it into one big library.

I find a lot of cool stuff online by following others on Facebook and Twitter and their projects. It's one of the main reasons I use stuff like Twitter and Facebook is how it can lead me to cool things. I like the shiny. One such person for finding cool things through is Felicia Day and I found out about Bad Astronomy on her YouTube series The Flog

Another cool thing I found out about while watching The Flog is Fallen London. If you like small old school games you might want to give this a try.

And for the last thing to check out. A friend pointed me towards Twenty Feet. I don't know if I will use it but found it interesting.

Loved this and I love the original song too. Double loads of fun.

Wait, I guess that was the last thing to check out.

Rants and rambles:

This is a good idea but I have to be honest I still don't fully understand all about Creative Commons stuff. It's something as a digital content person I really need to get a better grasp on.

If President Obama wants to make his legacy he needs to to make it about taking a stand within a sea of mad stupidpity and lies. He needs to come out and stand up for the rights of every American to marry, love, and live a life to prosper and find joy. He needs to make it perfectly clear that homophobia isn't a issue of give and take. It's human rights plain and simple. It's a issue of life and death. I respect the man for having to try and do his job in a time when the people on the other side of the political spectrum will vote against things they created if only to go against him when he supports those very same things. His job isn't easy but its not suppose to be either.

A quote I heard as a child still stuck in my brain from long ago, "The most dangerous thing is a good man who does nothing."

As I go off to write stories of my own I leave you with this from someone who gave inspiration to the stories and dreams of so many.

Where I talk about Free Comic Book Day, the FA Cup, and some crazy shit

I waited until Mar got home from work so we could go to Free Comic Book Day together. My local comic shop is Famous Faces And Funnies. A great store. She was very tired from a Jedi Younglings riot at her library. I told her Anakin would have taken care of that problem; so with her being tired and me being anti-social we just went in real quick and grabbed some things and back out.
The owner told us they were having their best FCBD ever so that was great to hear. Loved seeing a big crowd still there late in the day and just now enjoyed looking through tons of photos on their Facebook page.
Most of the free comics were gone by the time I got there but I don't go for the free books anyways. I go to support the store and buy some stuff. I did pick up a couple free books but also emptied my folder and grabbed the first trade of the relaunch of Animal Man from DC. When I asked people online which trade of the New DC 52 I should buy this one got more votes than any other.
I've always liked the Animal Man character. I have all the previous trades. Love the Grant Morrison run and also when he was in Justice League Europe. I'll be picking up volume two when it comes out and I guess also Swamp Thing Volume One by how this trade ended.
From my folder was the latest Doctor Who and Saga. Doctor Who #16. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. Good ending to a nice story. Matthew Dow Smith's art perfect fit for this story. Over time I really started to love his art on Doctor Who stories but I think I heard he would be leaving those books so I'm a little sad to hear that but will take a lot at any future projects they have coming out.
I gave 4 out of 5 stars for Saga #2. I'm loving this story but I might wait to read the rest in trades. What I do a lot of the time is I will test a books for a few issues to see if I might want to pick up future trades. I just don't have the room for tons of comics issues anymore. Most of the time I either donate to libraries, trade with someone, or giveaway the single issues I get.
I have every comic from the old Valiant days. Actually I'm missing maybe five but I'm close to have a complete set. I still need to pick up some of the recent released hardback trades which were released. Reading the FCBD special has my eyes open. I'll try at least the #1 for each series.
I liked the art of the FCBD The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo preview. I might pick up the graphic novel. I liked all the movies and the first book. This seems to be a adaption of the books. Has a very Vertigo feel to it just by the layout and art along. I know several people that didn't like that cover design, I thought it was cool.
The main free comic I wanted on FCBD was the Guild/Buffy flip book since I love both of those properties. I really liked both stories and pick up anything Buffy or Guild related. Can't wait for the next collection of Guild comics to come out.

Onto something else from the weekend, my team Liverpool played Chelsea in the FA Cup on Saturday and went down 2-1. It was a exciting FA Cup Final but I can't bring myself to talk about it anymore than this short little ramble.

Before the rants how about some cool stuff you might want to check out:

Or sense at all from comments which were made. Again no peer review, no decision with the individual library branches. And now guess who has to clean up this mess, the librarians out front.
Librarians and libraries have had a more positive effect on my life than any school or teacher- church or preacher. They introduced me to the world. The didn't cut off my destinations or block my dreams.

Where I talk about our pedophile government, blue screens, 50 Shades of wrongs steps, and Free Comic Book Day

I expand a little on some of my crazy straw thoughts and rants today:

Your government loves you like a man who's freshly exited a white van with painted windows. Ready to give you a nice big hug. We aren't children faced with a overpowering adult. We are the power but need to show it.

House Passes Cyber Security Bill with Expanded Gov’t Powers in Surprise Vote

I see the blue screen of death so many times I'm beginning to think I have a DOS laptop. This computer seems to have caught my asthma.

I guess 50 Shades Of Grey has been pulled from local libraries. Shit storm ready to burst. Challenging a book creates discussion. Not ordering is a decision. Pulling from shelves without challenge is weak. What I read from it didn't make think much about it but no challenge, no oversight, nor any peer review- just administrative personal opinion and it's pulled. This has opened the libraries to people challenging so many books based off this precedent.

Brevard libraries pull erotic best-seller 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

Today local news reminded me of these last two Unshelved books a little. I'm sure the 50 Shades Of Grey people are orgasmic to the free publicity. 5/1 5/2 5/3

Rich Scott is not only a complete ass but really really stupid. It's like he's wanting something to happen?
